Columbus, Ohio, Rescued Dog Photography - Ace by Holly Hildreth

I got to meet and photograph handsome Mr. Ace recently! Ace is currently searching for his forever home through Stop the Suffering Animal Rescue of Ohio. He's an approximately 5-years-old, 45 pound Golden Retriever mix.

Ace is the sweetest guy. For a special treat, he does the most adorable spin when he's excited. When you meet him, he warms up quickly and is your best buddy - especially if you're willing to offer belly rubs and bones - two of his favorite things. He is house trained and crate trained and is just ready to be your bestest boy. Ace LOVES to go for walks and spend time outdoors. He is so happy when he is roaming around a fenced yard, so a fenced in backyard is a must, as Ace loves to bask in the sun and run when given the opportunity. He does well with other dogs, though he requires slow introductions to other dogs and boundaries, particularly around food. Younger kids are likely not the best option for Ace's home as he does guard his food. Ace does have some longterm medical needs that his adopter will need to keep up with. He will need to take daily medication for his heart and arthritis. Apply today to meet Ace! Lewis Center, Ohio, Pet Photography Session - Dove by Holly Hildreth

Leaves, camera, action! You may recognize this gorgeous White Swiss shepherd as Dove the Diabetic Alert Dog in Training! I photographed Dove last year while she was still a puppy. It was great to see her again now that she’s all grown up. Not only is this dog gorgeous, but she’s got brains and athleticism too! Dove showed off her recall skills, frisbee catching, and diving/water retrieval prowess during her shoot. Even though it was a chilly day, Dove couldn't wait to jump into the water!

During our pet photo shoot, we walked a beautiful trail at Alum Creek State Park in Lewis Center, Ohio, down to the lake and back, stopping along the way for short play sessions against gorgeous fall colors. We got so many beautiful images that it’s hard to choose a favorite!

Westerville Ohio Puppy Photography Session - Carmella the Mini-Bernadoodle by Holly Hildreth

Meet Carmella, the 10 week old Mini-Bernadoodle. This insanely cute puppy was just as sweet as she looks—nothing but wiggles and kisses from this good girl. She was curious about everything during our session at Everal Barn and Heritage Park in Westerville, which made for a super fun shoot. I LOVE photographing puppies! With all their energy and excitement, it makes it easy to get lots of great personality shots. But you have to have a quick trigger finger, or else you’ll miss those fleeting moments of stillness!

One concern I hear quite often from prospective puppy clients is the worry that we won’t be able to get good pictures because their young puppy doesn’t know any commands, and also can’t be trusted off leash. But, what most folks don’t know, is that I keep the puppies on a leash the whole time. Yep, that’s right. In every photo here Carmella is actually wearing a collar and leash, and I Photoshop the leash out afterwords. That way there’s no worries about safety, and we can keep your pup close by. There’s also no need for these little ones to know any commands. Although it’s always nice to have a good “sit”, sometimes you get more exciting photos when you just let your pup play, explore their environment, and just be a puppy. Puppies have a very short attention span, so it’s important to make sure to keep the session light and fun. That way the experience is as stress-free as possible for both you and your puppy.

New Albany, Ohio, Pet Photography Studio Session - Roux the Afghan Hound by Holly Hildreth

I've had an idea for a styled shoot rolling around in my head for ages. I pictured an elegant hound, wearing a gold crown, with moody lighting in a whole renaissance era oil-painting vibe. So when Roux's owner contacted me about booking a studio shoot for her gorgeous Afghan Hound, I knew this was the right pup to be my model. I asked her owner if she'd be ok with me getting some bonus shots after the regular shoot was done, and she agreed. So we did a normal shoot, and then switched into Rembrant mode to try to make this idea a reality. It's safe to say, Roux looks like she was born to wear a crown.

A few days after the shoot, I entered the image of Roux lying down with a laurel crown to the Professional Photographers of America’s annual International Print Competition (IPC). This image received a “merit” designation, which is awarded to high caliber images. This image joined 3 other of my photos which merited, to earn me a Bronze medal in the 2022 IPC competition.

Westerville, Ohio, Pet Photography Session - Oksana the Husky by Holly Hildreth

I absolutely love springtime! The warmer temps, vibrant splashes of color, and beautiful spring flowers—it’s all a perfect recipe for a great outdoor pet photography session. For Oksana the husky’s session, we used both Astronaut Grove Park and Everal Barn and Homestead at Heritage Park in Westerville, Ohio. Not only did we get amazing spring colors to work with, but we were lucky enough to catch a perfect sunset as well. But our photo shoot didn’t stop there! Oksana and her owner were great sports and stuck around a little longer so we could keep shooting into twilight. This allowed us to got some dramatic blue hour photos featuring dark clouds rolling in, making for a truly dynamic pet session.
