Rare Dog Breed Photography - Ginko by Holly Hildreth

Capturing Rare Dog Breeds: A Hungarian Mudi Photo Shoot in Columbus, Ohio

Stunning professional pet photo shoot of a rare dog breed called the Hungarian Mudi, in a field of yellow wildflowers in Columbus, Ohio

One of the things I love most about being a professional pet photographer in Columbus, Ohio, is the incredible opportunity to meet and capture stunning images of some of the most unique and rare dog breeds in the world. Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Ginko, a beautiful Hungarian Mudi! For those unfamiliar with the breed, the Hungarian Mudi is a truly remarkable dog. Originally bred as herding dogs in Hungary, they’re known for their intelligence, agility, and versatility. These energetic dogs are always eager to work and learn, excelling in dog sports like agility, obedience, and herding competitions.

The Mudi’s striking appearance makes them a dream to photograph. Their coats can range from wavy to curly, and they come in a variety of colors, from solid black to unique merle patterns. While they may be relatively small in size, their big personalities (and even bigger voices) make them stand out. As a pet photographer, it’s an absolute joy to capture their playful and energetic spirit through my lens. Mudis are incredibly loyal, loving, and bond closely with their owners, which always shines through in their portraits.

What makes the Hungarian Mudi even more special is how rare they are—only about 450 of these incredible dogs are living in the United States. Each encounter with one feels like a special treat, and believe it or not, I’ve had the privilege of photographing several Mudis here in Columbus! I guess you could say I’m a Mudi magnet! Whether you have a rare breed like the Mudi or a beloved mixed breed, capturing the essence of your pet’s personality is what I strive for in every photo session.

If you’re looking for professional pet photography in Columbus, Ohio, and want stunning images that highlight your dog’s unique beauty, intelligence, and personality, I’d love to help you create memories that last a lifetime.

Ohio Rescue Dog Photography - Studio Portraits of Josie by Holly Hildreth

Professional pet photography of an English Bulldog. Studio Portrait by Columbus, Ohio Dog Photographer Holly Hildreth

In my free time I volunteer my pet photography talents to a few Columbus, Ohio-area dog rescues in hopes of helping adoptable dogs find their forever homes. Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph Josie, a very special one-eyed English bulldog, who is available for adoption through Stop the Suffering Animal Rescue of Ohio!

Meet Josie: A Sweet Bulldog Searching for Her Forever Home

Josie is a one-eyed, 2-year-old English bulldog with a heart of gold. Despite her delicate condition, Josie is full of love and eager to find someone who can provide her with the care she needs. She has a heart arrhythmia that is improving but requires regular medication—something her future adopter should be prepared to manage long-term. In addition to her special medical needs, Josie also requires typical bulldog maintenance care, such as having her facial folds wiped regularly and avoiding overheating.

Josie is incredibly friendly, fully house-trained, crate-trained, and gets along well with other dogs and people of all ages. She has a sweet personality. She was happy to pose for photos for me—as long as she could take some breaks to come over and get some belly rubs and eat some treats in between shots.

Josie is the whole package. She even has a full wardrobe of doggy clothes that she loves to get dressed up in! She truly deserves a loving home where she can thrive and receive all the care and attention she needs. If you are interested in giving Josie her forever home, please visit Stop the Suffering Animal Rescue of Ohio to apply.

Why I Volunteer to Photograph Adoptable Dogs

Professional dog photography of a one-eyed English Bulldog doing a head tilt and looking at the camera

Volunteering to take photos of adoptable dogs is incredibly meaningful to me. As a professional pet photographer, I understand the importance of a great photograph! The difference between a cell phone snap and a professional portrait can make a world of difference for a dog waiting to be adopted. Many dogs spend too much time in shelters or foster homes simply because potential adopters don't see their true personality from a standard photo. Often photos of adoptable dogs are taken at the animal shelter. The Pound can be a very scary place for most dogs! By busting these dogs out of doggy jail, we’re able to get them to a much more calm and positive environment, which in turn puts them at ease and allows me to capture each dog's unique spirit. I hope to increase their chances of being noticed by a family that will give them a loving home.

My goal is to use my pet photography skills to give back to the community here in Columbus, Ohio and help homeless dogs find their forever families. Every animal deserves a chance to be loved, and if my photographs can help make that connection, then all the effort is worthwhile.

Dog Birthday Photo Shoot for Stevie the Doodle in New Albany Ohio by Holly Hildreth

Dog wearing a birthday bandanna during her birthday photo shoot with a professional dog photographer in New Albany, Ohio

The Rumors are true, Stevie Nicks totally rocked her recent birthday photo shoot. Her sunny Don’t Stop (feeding me peanut butter) disposition made her the stuff of Dreams to photograph. This Gold Dust Woman was once a shy puppy mill castaway, but she wants you to know that she's Never Going Back, because sometimes in life you gotta Go Your Own Way. Now Stevie's thrilled to be living life off The Chain ( how many Fleetwood Mac references can I cram in one post?

Stevie’s owner wanted to do a photo shoot to celebrate her dog’s birthday. After not having the best start in life, this rescue dog is now living her best life, which includes being spoiled with a photo shoot!

For this session we used Rose Run Park in New Albany, Ohio. The roses were in full bloom, which made for a beautiful setting. All those roses give a few of the photos an Alice in Wonderland garden vibe!

While this photo shoot was supposed to be just of Stevie, I snuck a photo of Stevie and her mom together having a sweet moment in the garden.

Besides photographing in the rose garden, we also took a walk on the path through the woods. This gave us a great opportunity to get some different backgrounds so that it almost looks like the sessions was in 2 different parks!

As we walked through the wooded area of the park, I took advantage of a tree stump. I had Stevie perched on top of the stump, and then I got down low and used a wide angle lens to get the blue sky and dog in the same shot.

Afterwords we circled back toward the New Albany library garden and caught the tail end of golden hour there. I love that we didn’t have to go far to get so many different “looks” from this park.

But, regardless of where you have your dog’s photo shoot, the main thing is capturing your pup’s spirit and unique personality and the million little things that make them who they are.

Celebrating your dog’s birthday with a photo shoot is a fun and unique gift for you both. Hiring a professional pet photographer adds a special touch to the celebration. A professional knows how to capture your dog's personality in a way that highlights their individual characteristics. Photographers who specialize in working with animals understand how to keep your dog happy, engaged, and comfortable throughout the session.

Lighting plays a crucial role in photography, and it can turn an ordinary moment into a breathtaking work of art. Professionals pet photographers are equipped to handle these elements with skill, ensuring that every shot looks stunning—no easy task when it comes to lighting a moving subject. Dog models are way less predictable than human models. Hiring an experienced pet photographer who specializes in dog photography is essential to making sure get incredible images and also have a positive, stress-free experience. Afterall, this is your pet’s birthday—it’s a joyful occasion! We’ll do whatever we can to make sure your dog has a blast during her photo shoot. They may even have so much tail-wagging fun during our session that they fall asleep smiling during the ride home.

Why Your Maternity Photos Should Include Your Dog | Columbus, Ohio Pet Photographer Holly Hildreth by Holly Hildreth

A pregnant woman holds her baby bump and pets her dog's head during a maternity photoshoot including her dog in Columbus, Ohio.

If you’re looking to have maternity photos done, your first thought is probably not, “I should contact a local pet photographer!” While naturally the focus of a traditional maternity photo shoot is solely on the mom-to-be, there’s another important family member who deserves to be part of the experience: your dog! And no other photographer will be able to capture the incredible bond you and your dog share better than a professional pet photographer.

Your dog has been by your side through all the ups, downs, and big moments in your life. If your dog is your ride-of-die, then you will definitely want to include them in your photo shoot to add a unique and meaningful touch—after all, you were a dog mom first!

While many portrait, family, and maternity photographers are skilled in capturing beautiful moments between people, a pet photographer brings unique expertise that can make all the difference when your dog is involved.

Professional pet photography by Holly Hildreth featuring a happy Rottweiler dog by a bridge and creek in New Albany, Ohio.

Professional animal photographers are familiar with capturing both the human and animal dynamic. They know how to direct and pose you, your partner, and your dog together in ways that look and feel natural. They’re incredibly skilled at timing those shots to capture the split-second moments that a people-photographer may miss. They also know how to get your dog’s attention and how to get them to look in the right direction, whereas a people-only photographer may just be focused in on with how you look, which means your dog ends up being more of an after-thought.

While a traditional people and family photographer may have a whole list of pre-decided poses for you to do during your session (that they likely use for most sessions), going with the flow during your session and letting your dog set the pace allows us to have a much more casual, low-pressure experience, which in turn lets us capture beautiful candid moments. I aim to make your session as stress-free and fun for everyone as possible. I mean, pregnancy is already stressful as it is—there’s no need add more to your plate! So rather than feeling like a formal and serious photo shoot, your session will feel more like you are just enjoying some time together with your furry friend at one of the many beautiful parks in central Ohio.

Beautiful moment of a pregnant woman holding her baby bump while her dog reaches up to place a paw on her belly during a pet photo shoot in Ohio.

One of the key reasons to hire a pet photographer for a maternity photo shoot with your dog is their understanding of animal behavior. While your dog might be a perfect angel at home, animals can be unpredictable, especially in new places or around unfamiliar people, sights, smells, and sounds. A pet photographer knows how to work with your dog in order to create a safe and relaxed environment to put them (and you) at ease. They’re skilled at capturing your dog’s unique quirks and personality, whether that’s through playful moments, tender interactions, or loving gazes.

Are you’re looking for some cute dog-themed nursery decor? We can also capture some photos of your dog by themselves, which makes for great canvas prints and wall art which is a creative way to incorporate meaningful decor in your baby’s nursery. Photos of your dog can also make great wall art for other areas of your home, so it’s almost like you are really getting a two-for-one!

Dogs also bring a sense of joy, spontaneity, and fun that can lighten the mood during a photo shoot and help you relax in front of the camera. Whether they’re interacting with you, being cheeky, or simply snuggling up, the natural moments they create let me capture genuine emotions that may be harder to capture with just people alone. These candid shots are client favorites, and they often make the most memorable photos that reflect the authentic dynamics of your family, complete with real smiles and natural expressions.

So, if you’re looking to include your dog in your maternity photo shoot, then a professional dog photographer should be your first stop. Not only will you get gorgeous images of you and your dog together, but your whole experience is sure to be a stress-free, fun-filled outing with lots of laughs and big smiles.

Columbus Pet and Family Photo Shoot - Logan the Frenchie by Holly Hildreth

A man with his back to the camera hugs his french bulldog while standing in front of a graffiti wall in Columbus, Ohio, during a pet and family photo shoot

Logan, the silliest French Bulldog of them all, was a joy to photograph during his recent pet and family session. This super friendly pup is very loved by his family, and holds a special place in the heart of his dog-dad. Logan and his dad made the big move to Columbus, Ohio, from Puerto Rico and went through the difficult transition of starting anew so far from home. Logan played an important role in keeping his dad's spirits up by providing lots of love, laughs, and company during an otherwise stressful time. I can definitely relate. When I moved across the country to Columbus back in 2012, I knew absolutely no one here and only had my corgi by my side, so I completely understand how important our furry friends are in helping us get through the challenging seasons of life.

We did our photo shoot at Creekside Park in Gahanna, Ohio. We wanted to have a good mix of urban scenes as well as some natural backgrounds to give us lots of variety. I love using this park, as you don’t have to walk far to get lots of different looks during a session.

As it turns out, it doesn’t matter what the background or location it—Logan is going to do his best to give face licking kisses wherever he goes. This goofy boy and his inability to hold his licker let me get beautiful portraits of him with his family with genuine smiles and laughter, and helped keep the session fun and lighthearted.

Logan’s people also wanted to be sure we captured a shot of him wearing his Superman costume complete with a big red cape. This was such a fun shot—I love when we get to do unique and personality-filled photos like this. To get this shot I placed Logan on a large rock and then I laid down on the ground and aimed my camera up. This allowed me to get a great larger-than-life shot of Logan proudly showing off his costume while his cape billowed in the wind.

Incorporating special items into your pet photo shoot is a great way to make photos more meaningful and memorable—whether it’s a costume, special collar, favorite toy, or their favorite treat.

Arrow's Dog and Family Photo Shoot by Midwest Pet Photographer Holly Hildreth by Holly Hildreth

As a professional pet photographer, I always love having sunny weather for a session, But, sometimes Mother Nature has other plans. For Arrow's Family and Pet photo shoot, her plans included torrential downpours! But the silver lining to the gathering storm clouds is that it made for some really dramatic skies and lighting, which allowed us to take incredibly unique family photos. The impressive thunderstorm that provided us with such a great background for our session ended up drenching us on our way back to the parking lot at the end of the shoot. (Still worth it!)

A couple poses with their dog during a couple's pet and family photo shoot in Ohio. There is a field and a dramatic stormy sky in the background

We began our outdoor pet photography session in a shallow creek area at Alexandria, Ohio’s best hidden gem: Lobdell Reserve. The cloudy skies allowed us to get nice, soft lighting while we were photographing by the stream. This is proof that cloudy days can still give you amazing results for your dog and owner portraits!

Arrow loves to wade in water, so this was the perfect session location for him. It’s always so fun to incorporate some of your dog’s favorite activities to really help capture the essence of your dog. Plus you can’t help but smile watching your dog having a blast in their element.

After our playful romp in the creek, we took a little break to go back up on the edge of the woods where we found a nice little bench to take a moment to catch our breath before moving on to another spot.

Next we headed over to a hiking trail through a tall prairie grass field. This spot gave us an unobstructed view of the sky and allowed us to get some shots with the approaching storm in the background. We tried to work quickly to get our portraits done before the storm got too close, but we were really cutting it close. You can even see some raindrops in a few of these photos if you zoom in. While most people think of family portraits they envision a clear blue skies, but I vote for making stormy sky portraits a thing! I grew up in Tornado Alley, and nothing reminds me of home quite like watching a storm build up in the distance. While we don’t get nearly as many storms here in central Ohio, every now and again we do get a pop up storm that puts on a show.

Dog Birthday Party Photography - By Ohio's Premiere Pet Photographer Holly Hildreth by Holly Hildreth

I have a tradition of doing birthday photos every year of my own dogs on their birthday to celebrate. I try to make the theme different every year, and also use it as an opportunity to get a little creative! Today I wanted to share with you my youngest corgi Brisket’s birthday photos. Brisket turned 3 this year, and you may not know this, but he’s not actually a dog—he’s really 3 possums stacked on top of each other in a trench coat…inside a corgi’s body.

This year I went with a color explosion for the party theme. I wanted a vibrant color pallet, reminiscent of Lisa Frank’s style for my puppy’s 3rd birthday party.

Of course I can’t just share this year’s photos without also including his last 2 birthdays as well. For his 1st and 2nd birthdays, I wanted to go with something simple, since he was still very much a puppy and not interested in modeling for me. Now that he’s older he is obsessed with getting his picture taken.

Valentine's Day Themed Dog Photoshoot by Ohio Pet Photographer Holly Hildreth by Holly Hildreth

Adorable Valentine’s Day Puppy Portraits

A big round of a-paws for Rigby and Brisket being the best doggy models

While I’m not a huge fan of Valentine’s day, I decided that my two corgis needed a Valentine's-themed shoot anyway. I knew I wanted to try something new, and decided to create my own background and set for this photo shoot. The inspiration came when I realized I needed to cut off and toss some seamless paper that got thoroughly scuffed up from use, but instead of just throwing it away, I had arts and crafts time! I cut hearts out of the used paper and taped them onto a clean roll of seamless with painter’s tape. The result was a super-festive, greeting-card worthy set of photos of my pups that you can’t help but smile about

Tyskie the Border Collie mix recently came to me for a session after receiving some unfortunate health news. Since it was so close to Christmas, we decided to take advantage of Creekside park in Gahanna, which has an amazing Christmas light display in December. Tyskie’s family wanted to capture some portraits of him by himself as well as a few photos together. Take a look below for some of my favorites from our session.

End of Life pet photography is not about dwelling on the inevitable, but rather about celebrating the life, love, and the unique bond you share with your dog.

Dogs bring us immeasurable joy, unconditional love, and goofy antics that fill our lives with laughter and warmth. As much as we cherish every wonderful moment together, the reality of their shorter lifespans means we will all have to say “goodbye” to our best friends as some point.

Here's why end-of-life pet photography is a gift worth giving to yourself or a loved one:

  • Treasured memories: Photos transcend time and hold the incredible power to transport you back to joyful moments. A gentle nuzzle, a goofy grin during belly rubs, their soft gaze – these details might fade with time, but photographs keep them vibrant and alive.

  • Comfort in grief: Losing a pet is never easy, and the pain can feel overwhelming. End-of-life photos offer a tangible connection to your furry friend, a source of comfort and solace when you need it most. Looking at their familiar face, can bring a wave of bittersweet joy and cherished memories. The session itself also provides owners a sense of closure and peace knowing that we’ve captured something to hold on to after your pet passes.

  • Honoring the bond: These photos are a testament to the unconditional love and unwavering loyalty shared between you and your dog. They capture the pure joy pets bring to us, as well as the deep devotion we share. These are more than just portraits; they are gallery-worthy works of art created as an homage to your pet and their impact on your life.

  • Celebrating life: While acknowledging the inevitable, end-of-life pet photography is ultimately a celebration of life. It's a way to honor your dog through a beautiful tribute to their spirit. The session also gives us an opportunity to go on one last tail-wagging adventure before they cross the Rainbow Bridge. Owners often remark that their dog is so overjoyed during our session that they catch a beautiful glimmer of their dog acting like their old, happy selves.

Making the experience special:

  • Choose the right photographer: Look for someone who specializes in pet photography and understands the emotional sensitivity of end-of-life sessions, as well as the extra considerations that may be needed for a terminally-ill pet.

  • Focus on comfort: Prioritize your dog's well-being above all else. Choosing the setting, keeping the session stress-free, and letting your furry friend guide the pace means that you and your dog are both going to have a positive and fun experience

  • Doggy Bucket List: Does your dog love cheeseburgers more than anything? Or maybe they could never resist going for a swim. We can customize your session to your pet, which means we have an opportunity to incorporate some of your pet’s favorite things. Our session provides you with one last memory-making adventure together.

If you are interested in booking an end of life pet photography session for your dog, please use my contact page to request a session. Because I know time is of the essence in these cases, I will be in touch ASAP to get your pup in for their photo shoot.

Ohio End of Life Dog Photography - Louis, Slugger, & Easton by Holly Hildreth

End of Life dog photography session with a special needs schnauzer dog in Ohio

End of Life Pet Photography

Saying “goodbye” to our furry friends is never easy. EoL Pet Photography is a wonderful way to celebrate the life of your furry friend before they pass.

While I always hope for amazing sunny skies for every session, sometimes Mother Nature has her own plans and gives you a dark and drizzly day instead. Your can actually see the raindrops in some of these photos if you zoom in! Louis, Slugger, and Easton recently had their fall session with me. Days before their session, Slugger's family found out he is diabetic. Getting a diabetes diagnosis in dogs can be extremely overwhelming at first--trust me, I know firsthand! Since my personal dog is also diabetic, I knew exactly what Slugger needed. We were able to time his session around his feeding and insulin schedule as well as use low-glycemic treat options that wouldn't impact his blood sugar. I'm so glad we were able to capture some beautiful portraits of these 3 adorable pups, despite the rainy weather, and am wishing Slugger's family all the best as they embark on their doggy diabetes journey together.

Here’s what their owner had to say about their pet photography experience:

“Wow! Holly was fantastic for so many reasons! She worked with all three of our dogs at once and delivered some fantastic photos! She took pictures of our three boys on a rainy, yucky day and turned them into magic!

My favorite part of the experience was the accommodations she made for our newly diabetic pup, Slugger. She was so great working with all of our dogs, but really tailored our experience to Slugger, by recommending the best treats, working around our feeding schedule, and offering her experience with her own diabetic fur baby.

We could not be happier with our experience. :)”

Ohio End of Life Pet Photography - Cosmo by Holly Hildreth

Cosmo and his family recently came to me for an End of Life Pet Photography Session when he received the unfortunate news that his cancer had returned. It's always an honor to be trusted with capturing some final memories of pets and families together—documenting the love and deep bond that is shared. While none of us know how long our pups have with us, it is never easy to say goodbye. I'll be thinking of Cosmo and his family as they spend his golden days together. I'll leave you with my little poem about the most handsome one-eared wonder, Cosmo:

"For now let's cherish every day,

Savor every moment's play.

Though I may not have much pep

Please know I’ve loved every step.

So scratch my ear that special way,

Say the things you want to say.

Talk to me and let me know

It's "ok" when I must go."

Nestled in the Appalachian foothills outside of Newark, Ohio. Highland Hills Venue is a photographer's dream. They have a gorgeous wooden barn, outdoor string lights, a beautiful view of the surrounding hills, a pond with fountain, a vintage truck, longhorn and highland cows...and the list goes on! Travel and Destination Pet Photography - Angel in Cocoa Beach, Florida by Holly Hildreth

Blondes really do have more fun! This beautiful blonde dachshund is Angel. I met Angel's owner, Liz, about 13 years ago online through Flickr. We hit it off, connecting through our mutual interest in dog photography, and our friendship grew from there. Liz has been a great cheerleader for me and always very supportive of my pet photography passion! So when I recently had an opportunity to travel to Cocoa Beach, Florida, I knew I just HAD to meet up with Liz and do a little photoshoot with her pup while I was there. It was truly so special for both of us to be able to do this!

We wanted to make sure to have a location that just screams "Florida". With those classic pastel hues and beachside views, South Beach Inn in Cocoa Beach was the perfect spot for our session.

While many of my clients live in Central Ohio, I do offer travel and destination pet photography services. Contact me today to get a custom quote!

Columbus End of Life Pet Photographer - Tanner & Sadie by Holly Hildreth

The loss of a pet can be one of the most difficult experiences in life. After all, our pets are our family. They provide us with unconditional love, companionship, and silent support. When they pass, we are left with a hole in our hearts.

End-of-life pet photography can help us to cope with the grief of losing our furry friends. It allows us to capture their likeness and personality in a way that will last a lifetime. These photos can remind us of the good times we had together, and they can help us to heal our hearts.

You may recognize Tanner and Sadie here from a previous photoshoot. We did a studio session of these two with their family a few months ago when Tanner's health was taking a turn. Luckily spunky 18-year-old Tanner is still with us, and continues to make his family smile.

We did Tanner and Sadie’s End of Life outdoor session at the always-wonderful Everal Barn and Homestead in Westerville, Ohio. This gorgeous park is not only filled with seasonal flowers, but it offers a quite, private setting for a Rainbow Bridge session.

If you or a loved one is faced with End of Life circumstances with your pet, please do not hesitate to reach out via my contact page, and I will be in touch ASAP. I keep time in my schedule reserved specifically for End of Life cases.

New Albany, Ohio, Pet Photography Sessions - Location Scouting: Wildflowers by Holly Hildreth

One exciting challenge in pet photography is trying out new locations for your sessions. But when working with dogs, it’s extra important to know what you’ll be getting yourself in to if you were to do a photo shoot there! When I am considering a new location for an outdoor pet session, there are some key things I need to figure out before the shoot in order to set your dog up for success.

One of the most crucial questions I want to answer when I am location scouting is: what are this park’s distractions? In order to get a first-hand look, I like to visit the park before our session (with my own dogs), and try to find out: Are there a lot of other park-goers? Will there be other dogs near us? Would we potentially encounter wildlife like geese, rabbits, ducks, or deer? How loud is the park? Are there any sounds that may startle a dog? How close to the road or parking lot will we be? How accessible are the areas within the park where I want to shoot? Where will the sun be setting in relation to some key features of the park? The list goes on and on, but each and every thing is an important detail in making sure you and your pup have the most stress-free photography experience as possible.

Recently, I had been wanting to scout out a new location closer to where I live in New Albany. As luck would have it, I actually stumbled upon an amazing spot one evening when we were walking to a restaurant. Nestled along a walking path in New Albany’s Rose Run Park, I spotted the most gorgeous pink and purple wildflowers. We took a walk through the park, and snapped some cell phone photos at a few spots I thought would make for a perfect background. I mentally took note of how busy the park was, what kind dog/foot/bike traffic there was, and then calculated when the best time for the session would be based on how the sun filtered in through the tree canopy. After our little scouting expedition, I knew just the dog that would be a perfect fit for this location: Oksana the Siberian Husky.

Coincidentally the same day, I attended a corgi meet-up with my own pup, Brisket, at Rocky Fork Dog Park in New Albany. Driving in, we noticed that there was an incredible field of wild butterweed just across the road! So when Oksana’s owner agreed to help me do a test photoshoot at Rose Run Park, I convinced her to also pop over to Rocky Fork afterwords. I’m so glad we did, as the shots from both locations turned out amazing! They were so good in fact, that I actually went back the next morning with my own dog for another photo shoot! But that’s a story for another post.

Westerville, Ohio, Pet Photography Session - Scout and Finnegan by Holly Hildreth

This wonderful Westie pair is Scout and Finnegan (The Scout Report & Finn Files). This dynamic duo had so much expression and personality, which made my job easy! These furry friends enjoy competing in all kinds of dog sports and of course love spending time with their family.

We had our session at Everal Barn and Homestead in Heritage park in Westerville, Ohio. I wanted to be sure to include some seasonal flowers as well as capture a gorgeous sunset. Scout and Finn came to me through a recent model call on my Facebook Page. I do occasionally put our model calls for special projects, so if you’re interested in your pup being considered, make sure to follow my page to stay informed!

Celebrating Specially-Abled Pets - Columbus, Ohio, dog photography by Holly Hildreth

Hooray! Today is Specially-abled Pets Day! This day honors and celebrates differently-abled pets, their stories, and the families that love them.

One concern I hear from owners is that they’re afraid their pet isn't suitable for a photo shoot due to being blind, deaf, mobility or otherwise impaired. They worry that we may not be able to get their attention, or that if their pet is not able to run and play, then they will look sad in the photos. I’m here to tell you that you have no reason to worry! Here is proof that we will absolutely get wonderful images of your faithful friend regardless of any impairments they may have.

In my years’ of experience, I have had the pleasure of working with pups from a whole spectrum of abilities, and as a result, I have figured out lots of the little secret tricks to get your dog’s attention. From dogs who are diabetic and unable to have treats during the shoot (my personal dog is diabetic too!) to seniors who are unable to stand, to dogs experiencing deafness, blindness…(or both!), I have seen it all, and know just the right ways to photograph these pets. Plus, you might pick up a secret tip for getting your dog’s attention from our photoshoot, that you can use at home when you’re taking your own snaps of your furry friend.

I wanted to celebrate today by sharing some of my oh-so-cute clients who haven’t let life’s curveballs slow them down.

Do you share your life with a specially-abled pet? If so, tell me about them in the comments below!

Westerville, Ohio, End of Life Pet Photography Session - Nellie by Holly Hildreth

"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."

This is sweet senior face is Nellie. Her mom reached out to me for an End of Life photoshoot when Nellie's health began to sharply decline. Luckily I have the most amazing, understanding clients which allowed me to move some session around in order to get Nellie in the very next day for her shoot!

Nellie’s owner describes her more like a sister than a pet. They have made so many memories in their 16.5 years together. It was easy to see just how special their connection was. While Nellie’s health issues limited her mobility, that didn’t stop her from laying in the soft grass, sniffing the cool spring breeze, and enjoying watching the sunset with the ones she loves the most: her mom, and fur-sibling Patriot. I'm so glad we were able to get Nellie in for her session when we did, as 2 days later, she made her journey to the Rainbow Bridge. Run free, Miss Nellie! Until we meet again.

While we all want our furry family members to be by our sides forever, unfortunately at some point we all must say goodbye. End of Life pet photography sessions are an amazing gift that you can give yourself. We capture beautiful memories in our time together, that many owners find helps them with the grieving process when their beloved pet passes. I keep time reserved in my schedule every week specifically for End of Life sessions where owners aren’t sure how much time their dog has left and/or are dealing with tough decisions around the declining health of their best friend. If you find yourself in this situation and would like to book your own EoL Pet Photo shoot, contact me today , and I will be in touch ASAP.

Columbus, Ohio, Pet Photography Session - Lucy & Rosie by Holly Hildreth

Lucy and her recently adopted sister-from-another-mister, Rosie, were a delight to photograph. Lucy was so bubbly and eager to please. She just wanted to be in the spotlight! Rosie was a little hesitant, but soon learned that photos mean lots of treats! But...can we just take a minute to talk about the glow-up Rosie has had?!

Rosie had a tough start in life. She is a former puppy mill momma. She was stuck in a wire cage 24/7, with another cage on top of her. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the excrement from the dog above her would fall onto her, which is a horrible way to live! Luckily Stop the Suffering Animal Rescue of Ohio stepped in and got her out of there. Four months ago Rosie started her life over, and she has totally won the jackpot being adopted by an amazing, patient, loving family that adores her. Only happy days are ahead for this girl--and she deserves it!
